One of the questions we hear most often is how long bridal makeup actually takes. The honest answer is that the application is only one part of the day. Here is what a full wedding day looks like from our side of the chair.

5:30 a.m.

The kit gets a final check. Brushes are already clean and packed, but we confirm every product on the list one more time, including the shades chosen at your preview. Coffee happens. The drive to the venue in Telluride or Mountain Village gets a buffer built in for weather and for the gondola if the schedule calls for it.

7:00 a.m.

We arrive and set up before anyone is in the room. Good light matters more than almost anything, so we find the best window and build the station around it. Chairs get positioned. Products are laid out in the order they’ll be used. If hair is working alongside us, we confirm the rotation so nobody is waiting.

7:30 a.m.

Bridal party makeup begins. Each session runs 50 minutes and includes skin prep and lashes. We work through mothers, grandmothers, and bridesmaids on a schedule that was set weeks earlier, which is what keeps the room relaxed instead of rushed.

This is usually when the day finds its rhythm. Robes, music, someone’s playlist, the photographer moving quietly through the room.

11:00 a.m.

The bride sits down. Her application is scheduled for 90 minutes, and that time is protected. Skin prep comes first and never gets shortened. Then base, eyes, and the details that make a look photograph the way it looks in person.

Because her look was designed at the preview, there are no decisions left to make. She can talk with her people, or not talk at all, and either is exactly right.

12:30 p.m.

Final checks. We look at the look in the light she’ll actually be standing in, which sometimes means stepping outside. Lashes get pressed. Lips get set. We pack a small touch-up kit for whoever is carrying her things.

1:00 p.m.

Evening

The last touch-up usually happens right before the reception begins. Then we pack down, confirm nothing is left behind, and drive home while the dancing starts.

The application is 90 minutes. The day is twelve hours. Both of those things are true, and the second one is why the first one goes so smoothly.
